The Outlook of the 23th President of ISOM 

I am very grateful for the recognition and affirmation from all the esteemed colleagues. I am willing to take on the significant responsibility entrusted to me to drive the innovation and advancement of ISOM. I will work diligently and collaborate closely with all the respected colleagues, striving together to maximize the benefits for the well-being of humanity. Let us collectively promote the profound influence of international Oriental medicine in every household.

The initiation and development of every industry stem from the overall needs of the people and society. Therefore, the recognition and prioritization of the healthcare industry are closely linked to the level of dependence on it by the public. Oriental Medicine is no exception. To ensure the flourishing of Oriental Medicine, one of our core tasks is to harness the collective strength of all members and highlight the advantages of Oriental Medicine.

Fortunately, under the determined leadership of successive presidents, ISOM has achieved remarkable results. During the tenure of President Jaung-Geng Lin in the 19th term, proactive treatments for acute, severe, and difficult conditions showcased the significant role of Oriental Medicine. Furthermore, the visionary approach to preventive and therapeutic measures against COVID-19, spearheaded by Professor Seung-hoon Choi during the 21st-22nd term, further demonstrated the efficacy of Oriental Medicine. It is evident that addressing the survival crises of humanity in the new century relies on Oriental Medicine.

In the realm of Oriental Medicine, advanced concepts such as "preventive medicine" and "precision healthcare" were proposed as early as thousands of years ago. Even in the face of incurable diseases, Oriental Medicine does not abandon any precious opportunity to save lives. Hence, the ingenious theory of "living with illness and prolonging life" has been developed. Through skillful acupuncture, herbal medicine, and dietary adjustments, cancer patients can extend their lifespan while maintaining a good quality of life, fulfilling their wishes. This may be a significant bottleneck in Western medicine but stands as a strong advantage in Oriental Medicine, representing a life-saving remedy that the public genuinely needs. It is worth our utmost efforts to promote and propagate these principles.

With the rapid progression of an aging society, the emergence of superbugs, mutated viruses, and novel civilization-related diseases, Oriental Medicine, with its long history, unique theories, and technical approaches, aligns with the current needs of humanity. Therefore, ISOM needs to harness the collective strength of its members, working together in every battle against diseases to showcase the value of Oriental Medicine to the world.

In the past few years, the global COVID-19 crisis has created a sense of survival panic worldwide. The initial high transmission and mortality rates left modern medicine somewhat helpless. Fortunately, timely introductions of Oriental Medicine, including Taiwan's Clearing Corona Chinese herbal formula, effectively reduced the spread of the pandemic and alleviated discomfort during the infection period. These contributions provided crucial time for the subsequent development of vaccines and other Western antiviral drugs, gaining global recognition. This success presents an excellent opportunity for the internationalization of the Oriental Medicine industry, a direction worth emphasizing for the future of ISOM.

The era of "big health" has arrived, marked by the continuous increase in average life expectancy. The health industry has become a global hotspot following the digital industry. With its profound cultural foundation, Eastern medicine has emerged as a significant force in this burgeoning global economy. It has also opened up vast untapped markets for the industry. In shaping the future goals of ISOM, it is imperative to examine the dramatically altered landscape brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes addressing various public health issues and leveraging AI technologies developed in response to the pandemic.

The integration of AI into the clinical application of Oriental Medicine can overcome the constraints of time and space. This enables patients and their families to access health information related to Oriental Medicine in a more convenient manner. It can also enhance the speed and accuracy of diagnoses by physicians. In fields such as telemedicine, home healthcare, long-term care, and geriatric medicine, AI plays a crucial role in maintaining societal well-being. It ensures that individuals can receive friendly care based on Eastern medicine at any moment and in any environment, thereby contributing to the overall health of the community.

"Oriental Medicine" represents the profound heritage of ancient civilizations. Guided by the threads of historical destiny, its purest essence quietly landed on the lands of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, and others. It has nurtured countless people, perfectly embodying its advantages and characteristics of "harmony between heaven and humanity, healing all ailments, nurturing life, and extending longevity." This was the unique cornerstone and strength our ancestors relied on to resist diseases and perpetuate their legacy long before the widespread dissemination of Western medicine.

This is an extremely positive and value-oriented perspective, emphasizing that the essence of healthcare lies in providing beneficial methods for the public. It underscores the importance of valuing and supporting all forms of medicine, whether they originate from Eastern medicine, Western medicine, or other practices. This stance emphasizes respect for life and fair treatment, transcending social class, skin color, identity, or nationality, asserting that every life deserves high-quality healthcare services.

Integrating such beliefs into the principles of ISOM contributes to making the organization more developmental and globally influential. This people-centric, life-respecting philosophy aids in advancing and fostering collaboration within the global medical community. It is hoped that these beliefs can be translated into tangible actions, actively contributing to the elevation of global healthcare standards and the promotion of human well-being.

Climate change is a focal point that demands our attention, and the accompanying global warming brings about survival challenges, including the emergence of new types of diseases with a destructive impact comparable to that of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, crises also present opportunities, and the strengths of Eastern medicine can usher in a ray of hope for humanity. Therefore, ISOM must facilitate closer international academic research exchanges, fostering mutual understanding, and simplifying the complex to make Eastern medicine theories more accessible to the public.

To create a favorable brand image for Eastern medicine, ISOM aims to make it synonymous with "accessible," "economical," "practical," "simple," and "effective." Winning the hearts of the people and becoming their medical belief will grant us a greater voice to promote Eastern medicine. To achieve this, I proposes implementing a corporate governance model, establishing a Sustainable Operations Committee and a Risk Management Committee. The former will formulate the development direction, strategies, and goals of ISOM, devise management policies, and implement plans. It will also regularly track the decisions, execution, and effectiveness of the board of directors. The latter will assess potential disease threats, the layout of medical policies, and feasible preventive measures.

Looking ahead, my focus will be on three key aspects: "policy formulation," "supervision and execution," and "active participation," aiming to strengthen the implementation of various initiatives and institutional establishment within ISOM. I sincerely welcome constructive criticism and guidance from experienced colleagues and friends in the field. Your insights will be invaluable in refining and advancing the efforts of ISOM.
